Daily Meditation:  Sirach 51:30

Sirach 51:30

30 Do your work within the appointed time, and the Lord in his time will give you your reward.

Beloved, it is so easy to give into laziness, to put off what has to be done for no good reason except lack of will.  Self-indulgence overrules the desire to finish a task and precious time is lost.  This happens day after day and when I look back, I find that nothing worthwhile has been accomplished and time has been squandered and lost forever.  Grant me wisdom Lord, and help me overcome this weakness.  There is much to do and I must do it for Your glory, please shape and mold me in order that You may use me.  Help me sweet Spirit of God to do all that God has planned for me to accomplish in this life.  Thank You.

Daily Mass Readings:  Wisdom 12:13, 16-19, Romans 8:26-27,
                                 Matthew 13:24-43, Psalm 86:5-6, 9-10, 15-16

Wisdom 12:13, 16-19

Beloved there is no God like You O Lord.  You are  merciful and compassionate.  Thank You for not treating us as we deserve but for drawing us gently into true repentance in order that You might forgive us and restore us to kinship with You.

Romans 8:26-27

Beloved, St. Paul understood the human condition so well.  Yes, Lord I am weak and without Your Holy Spirit to help, guide and counsel me I would be lost.  Thank You for the gift of Your Holy Spirit who prays for me when I cannot, when words fail me, when I do not know what to ask for, and that I may be pleasing to You always.  If I allow the Holy Spirit to help me, He will do for me what I cannot do for myself.  Who better than Your Spirit can know what You desire for those whom You have ransomed and saved?  And when He asks on my behalf, will You  not hasten to give?  Thank You.

Matthew 13:24-43

My Beloved, everything that You have ordained is good.  All that comes from Your loving hand is a blessing.  It is how we receive it, perceive it and what we make of it that can make all the difference.  I can allow my perception to be twisted and turn the blessing into a curse by the way I choose to see it.  As Fr. George Rutler put it so well, I prefer to wallow in shallow, muddy water, begging for crumbs, instead of putting out into the deep where the water is clear, fresh and the fish plentiful; trusting that all I receive is better than all I desire.  Grant me O Lord the wisdom to receive all that You give me of both joy and sorrow, triumphs and failures, loss and gain, tears and laughter as Your precious gifts.  These shape, mold and strengthen me so that I may be of better use to those around me.  May I be wheat that You gather into Your barn and may I be prepared to be ground in Your mill in order to become bread that nourishes just as You become the Bread of Life for us.

Psalm 86:5-6, 9-10, 15-16

You are good and forgiving, O Lord, caring for those who call on you.
Listen, O Lord, to my prayer, hear the voice of my pleading.
All the nations you have made will come; they will worship before you, O Lord, and bring glory to your name.
10 For you are great, and wonderful are your deeds; you alone are God.
15 But you, O Lord God, are merciful, slow to  anger, loving and faithful.
16 Turn to me, take pity on me; give your strength to your servant, and save the child of your handmaid.

I make the prayer of the psalmist my own today - in the face of all the terror the world holds today verse 9 is comforting.  ALL NATIONS are the work of Your hand and ALL will worship You even rogue nations.  You are GOD anyone who forgets this truth does so at their peril.
