Your word is truth, O Lord:
consecrate us in the truth. JN 17:17
ECCLESIASTICUS 6:5-17
My Soul's Beloved,
If Christians were raised primarily on the Word of God, with all other secular studies coming second, we would have a world of exemplary men, women, and children who would rule the world with the power of God and the Wisdom of the Word. Sadly, the truth is that generation upon generation of Christians are ignorant of Scripture and St. Jerome says such ignorance also means we are ignorant of You, the Christ, the Son of the Living God.
Regret is the saddest, most bitter, and the most useless emotion. All it is good for is to learn from our past and vow not to err in the same way in the future. All we can do to rectify our neglect is to spend what time we have left to educate ourselves, root ourselves in the Word, put roots deep in it and allow it to transform our lives. We can then attract others to seek what we have and create the same hunger and thirst in them.
There is so much Wisdom in Your Word O Lord and we would have saved ourselves from many pitfalls had we knowledge of Your Word and allowed Your Wisdom to find a home in us. However, we must never underestimate the power of faithful, sincere prayer for those whom we have failed to instruct as we ought, those whom You have entrusted to our care as parents. What good does it do to beat ourselves up now, when it is too late to rectify our neglect except to pray with confidence that God who desires that all come to know You and be saved, will make a way somehow, sometime, somewhere to penetrate their hearts, minds, and souls with the Word which is sharper than a double-edged sword.
I will trust in Your mercy O Lord and in Your saving help.
PSALM 118(119):12,16,18,27,34-35
Guide me, Lord, in the path of your commands.
Guide me, Lord, in the path of your commands.
Blessed are you, O Lord;
teach me your statutes.
I take delight in your statutes;
I will not forget your word.
teach me your statutes.
I take delight in your statutes;
I will not forget your word.
Open my eyes that I may see
the wonders of your law.
Make me grasp the way of your precepts
and I will muse on your wonders.
Make me grasp the way of your precepts
and I will muse on your wonders.
Train me to observe your law,
to keep it with my heart.
Guide me in the path of your commands;
for there is my delight.
to keep it with my heart.
Guide me in the path of your commands;
for there is my delight.
Guide me, Lord, in the path of your commands.
