WEDNESDAY OF THE FIRST WEEK OF ADVENT - 2024

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

Look, the Lord will come to save his people.
Blessed those who are ready to meet him.

ISAIAH 25:6-10

My Soul's Beloved,

As Catholics, our tragedy is that most of us do not believe in and live the Good News as passionately as we ought. If we did we would all be living heroically virtuous lives. We would all be living saints thinking nothing of giving up all for the sake of the Gospel even our lives. This world has nothing to offer that can measure up to the wondrous things God has in store for those who love You, those who believe in You, and those who are prepared to give up everything and follow You giving up all for Your sake and the sake of the Good News that saves.

Lord Jesus, You dwell in fullness on Mt. Zion, the city on the hill where all God's people will climb singing hymns of praise and thanksgiving, adoration, and worship. It is on this Mountain where the Church You established is built. All who come to this place where God is present in fullness will find a seat at the banquet that God has prepared in the sight of all. Here all who believe in God's wondrous plan of salvation will feast on the superabundance that God provides for all who are one with You.

We eat the Flesh and drink the Blood of the Son of Man making it possible for us to walk in Your Way, embrace the Truth embodied in You, and receive Your supernatural life. This is the surest way to establish Your Kingdom on earth and make it present among us. Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God we believe that amid the darkness that has descended on the world the prayers, tears, cries, and lamentations of the faithful remnant rise up before the throne of God without ceasing and God will hear and He will answer.

On this mountain he will remove
the mourning veil covering all peoples,
and the shroud enwrapping all nations,
he will destroy Death for ever.
The Lord will wipe away
the tears from every cheek;
he will take away his people’s shame
everywhere on earth,
for the Lord has said so.

PSALM 22(23)

In the Lord’s own house shall I dwell for ever and ever.

The Lord is my shepherd;
there is nothing I shall want.
Fresh and green are the pastures
where he gives me repose.
Near restful waters he leads me,
to revive my drooping spirit.

He guides me along the right path;
he is true to his name.
If I should walk in the valley of darkness
no evil would I fear.
You are there with your crook and your staff;
with these you give me comfort.

You have prepared a banquet for me
in the sight of my foes.
My head you have anointed with oil;
my cup is overflowing.

Surely goodness and kindness shall follow me
all the days of my life.
In the Lord’s own house shall I dwell
for ever and ever.

In the Lord’s own house shall I dwell for ever and ever.

MATTHEW 15:29-37

My Soul's Beloved,

The comforting words we have just read in the prophecies of Isaiah are fulfilled as we read today's Gospel. The Church is the place where the sick, the wounded, the blind, the lame, the cripple, and the dumb are made whole and her children are fed with the supernatural bread that comes down from heaven without which we would die. The Church You founded on Peter and the Apostles is the place where after we are healed, fed, renewed, restored, refreshed, and rejuvenated we return to the world, having put on Your armor, ready to battle against the powers of darkness.

No one who comes to You is sent away hungry, thirsty, wounded, sick, naked, or enslaved. All who approach You in faith, humility, and hope are never disappointed, You give us Your abundance, and having received as much as we need until we are satisfied there is always plenty left over. The blessings never run out.

Jesus said to them, ‘How many loaves have you?’ ‘Seven’ they said ‘and a few small fish.’ Then he instructed the crowd to sit down on the ground, and he took the seven loaves and the fish, and he gave thanks and broke them and handed them to the disciples, who gave them to the crowds. They all ate as much as they wanted, and they collected what was left of the scraps, seven baskets full.
