FRIDAY OF THE SECOND WEEK OF ADVENT - 2023

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

The Lord will come, go out to meet him.
Great is his beginning and his reign will have no end.

ISAIAH 48:17-19 ©

My Soul's Beloved,

What has God not done for us His wayward, sinful, hardhearted, and hardheaded children? Our Father has done all to ensure that not one of His little ones is lost when He sent You into the world as one of us to save us. There is not a single human experience Beloved, that You have not suffered and endured so no one can dare to say, You do not understand. You do. You suffered every kind of deprivation physically and spiritually and through it all remained sinless. You came to take us by the hand and to lead us

You came to us as Prophet, Priest, and King - the world rejected You then and it rejects You now and this is why we live in a world that is dominated by evil, violence, hatred, envy, jealousy, self-aggrandizement, and we refuse to walk in the Way of Life and Truth.

We have rejected Your commandments. We make gods of ourselves and wonder why we are so desperately unhappy. Each generation seems even more lost than the one before it. Today, heaven and God lament for the children of God have drifted from the way of righteousness and are bound for destruction and death. Save us Lord according to Your Name. Have mercy O Lord and save Your people lest we perish eternally.

If only you had been alert to my commandments,
your happiness would have been like a river,
your integrity like the waves of the sea.
Your children would have been numbered like the sand,
your descendants as many as its grains.
Never would your name have been cut off or blotted out before me.

PSALM 1:1-4,6 ©

Happy indeed is the man
who follows not the counsel of the wicked;
nor lingers in the way of sinners
nor sits in the company of scorners,
but whose delight is the law of the Lord
and who ponders his law day and night.

He is like a tree that is planted
beside the flowing waters,
that yields its fruit in due season
and whose leaves shall never fade;
and all that he does shall prosper.

Not so are the wicked, not so!
For they like winnowed chaff
shall be driven away by the wind:
for the Lord guards the way of the just
but the way of the wicked leads to doom.

Anyone who follows you, O Lord, will have the light of life.

My Soul's Beloved,

We are perverse and we are rebellious. We are childish and foolish. We are often contrary for the sake of being contrary even though we are aware that we are being stubborn and prideful when we refuse to acknowledge the wisdom of God and reject Him and You.

How well You described the nature of man when You spoke to the crowds. We refuse to give God what is due to Him. We refuse to worship God. We choose to worship every created thing - the world, power, wealth, and fame rather than the God who created us in love, came to us in love, saved and redeemed us in love, and desires that we respond in love by choosing Him above and before all so we can be happy with the triune God eternally.

Our contrariness is apparent when we look at ourselves and our history - what is embraced and praised in one generation is renounced and condemned in the next and divine wisdom stands in judgment against our fickleness and our lack of integrity. Lord God, have pity on our fallen world which You have redeemed by the sacrifice of Your life. All we need to do is return with humble and contrite hearts and we will be saved. Grant us wisdom O Lord before it is too late.
