ST. CHARLES BORROMEO, BISHOP ON SATURDAY OF WEEK 30 IN ORDINARY TIME - 2023

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

Shoulder my yoke and learn from me,
says the Lord,
for I am gentle and humble in heart. MT 11:29

My Soul's Beloved,

The most consoling and comforting word in today's first reading is this: God never takes back his gifts or revokes his choice.

Thank You for this word of knowledge that You gave Your servant Paul, apostle to the Gentiles. Nothing can hold back the power of the Cross which flows in gushing torrents until the end of time.

The Jews will come to know You, love You, and serve You at a time You have already chosen which is until all Gentiles in every nation will bow the knee and proclaim to the glory of the Father that You are Lord. Satan and his demons tremble for the day is approaching when the time allotted to him is swiftly coming to a close. This is why evil rages around the globe. Violence, demonic madness, and the spawns of evil appear to have taken control over goodness, wisdom, truth, and plain common sense.

Thanks be to God, Beloved, for the hope we have in You. We believe in You and we believe in Your work of salvation and redemption. We wait with confidence for the day when God will raise His hand and say, 'Thus far and no further.' We yearn O Lord for the whole world to know You, love You, worship You, and acknowledge that You O Lord are God and it pleases the Father to grant salvation to all who come through You. We pray that You will hasten the day of Your return again in glory and majesty.

The Jews are enemies of God only with regard to the Good News, and enemies only for your sake; but as the chosen people, they are still loved by God, loved for the sake of their ancestors. God never takes back his gifts or revokes his choice.

PSALM 93(94):12-15,17-18 ©

Happy the man whom you teach, O Lord,
whom you train by means of your law;
to him you give peace in evil days.

The Lord will not abandon his people
nor forsake those who are his own;
for judgement shall again be just
and all true hearts shall uphold it.

If the Lord were not to help me,
I would soon go down into the silence.
When I think: ‘I have lost my foothold’;
your mercy, Lord, holds me up.

The Lord will not abandon his people.

My Soul's Beloved,

You know human nature so well. We push and shove to get ahead and do not care who falls in the process. We like to be acknowledged by those we consider our superiors. We like being praised in front of our peers and we preen with satisfaction when we are singled out for special favors.

Today You remind us once again that there is no virtue so pleasing to God than the virtue of humility. It is the doorway to all the virtues. May I always remember Your Words, Beloved, ‘For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and the man who humbles himself will be exalted.’
