TUESDAY OF WEEK 27 IN ORDINARY TIME - 2-23

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

Happy are those
who hear the word of God
and keep it. LK 11:28

JONAH 3:1-10 ©

My Soul's Beloved,

The second time Jonah obeyed the word of God promptly and preached repentance to the people of Nineveh. Wicked as the Ninevites they believed and repented of their sins. Sometimes all it takes is for someone to speak the truth in love and the sinner will give up his evil ways.

Not only the people but the king of Nineveh himself believed, rose from his throne, and issued a decree that men and beasts were to refrain from food and drink in the hope that God would have mercy and spare their lives and their country from destruction. And God did relent and He did spare their lives.

Beloved, God is always willing to forgive us and pardon all our offenses for Your sake and for the sake of Your sorrowful passion. All we need to do is come before the Throne of Mercy and Grace with humble and contrite hearts and even though our sins are as scarlet the power of the Blood of the Lamb will wash us whiter than snow. Thank You, Lord, for the confidence that all sinners can have in Your goodness, mercy, and love.

PSALM 129(130):1-4,7-8 ©

Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord,
Lord, hear my voice!
O let your ears be attentive
to the voice of my pleading.

If you, O Lord, should mark our guilt,
Lord, who would survive?
But with you is found forgiveness:
for this we revere you.

Because with the Lord there is mercy
and fullness of redemption,
Israel indeed he will redeem
from all its iniquity.

If you, O Lord, should mark our guilt: Lord, who would survive?

My Soul's Beloved,

Like Martha, many things are troubling me now. My soul is weighed down and I am anxious. My heart and my spirit are downcast and all day long I cry out to You for mercy, comfort, healing, peace, and joy. My whole life is grey and I am often unable to hold back my tears of sorrow and distress. I come before You and I plead my cause to You begging You to ease the burden that overwhelms me.

Let this be the day my Lord and my God that I welcome You into my heart and instead of begging You to ease my present sorrow I listen to You as You tell me not to worry and fret about things I have no control over. All I need is You and having You, Beloved I have all I shall ever need or want in this life. Let me heed the advice You give Martha to choose the better part as Mary, her sister did. Let me choose today and always to just sit quietly at Your feet and listen to You. You O Lord, are the Eternal and Living Word of the Father and Your Words are spirit and life. Through the power of Your Holy Spirit may Your Word abide in my heart and remain in me always.
