DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

The word of God is something alive and active:
it can judge secret emotions and thoughts. HEB 4:12\

My Soul's Beloved,

Nothing is hidden, we do not perceive the wisdom of God as though it were veiled - You tore the curtain separating human beings from God when You permitted us to rend Your flesh and pierce Your side with a spear thus making a way for the whole of humanity to enter through You into the Presence of God.

However, even before Your incarnation, Beloved, the Presence of God was visible and palpable in all of creation however as St. Paul laments, since the beginning many cultures even to this day and age prefer to worship created things either foolishly mistaking these for the Author of Life, Goodness, Beauty and Truth or deliberately choosing idolatry over the one, true and living God. This is why great calamities have struck us in various parts of the world periodically either by natural means or by our inhumanity against each other and laid waste human lives as well as the land.

And the final judgment against us by St. Paul so relevant to our times is this:

That is why God left them to their filthy enjoyments and the practices with which they dishonor their own bodies, since they have given up divine truth for a lie and have worshipped and served creatures instead of the creator, who is blessed forever. Amen!

Heavenly Father for the sake of Your Son's sorrowful passion have mercy on us and on the whole world. Do not let us destroy Your beautiful world and each other by senseless violence and hatred rather let us turn our gaze to Jesus who is the only Way to salvation and eternal life and receive the peace that is Your gift to all who believe.

PSALM 18(19):2-5 ©

The heavens proclaim the glory of God,
and the firmament shows forth the work of his hands.
Day unto day takes up the story
and night unto night makes known the message.

No speech, no word, no voice is heard
yet their span extends through all the earth,
their words to the utmost bounds of the world.

The heavens proclaim the glory of God.

My Soul's Beloved,

Some of us are born nit-pickers and finger-pointers, constantly seeking the faults and weaknesses in others and revealing them maliciously. How often an innocent gesture or a well-meaning act is misjudged and misrepresented, words are taken out of context, and the motives of the genuinely kind-hearted and generous person are looked at and judged suspiciously.

What was the motive of the Pharisee who invited You to dine at his house? You knew exactly what would happen when You sat at his table and did not follow the ritual of washing Your hands first and right enough Your ungracious host readily showed his surprise. Pointing out publicly that You failed to wash Your hands seemed more important to him than being a gracious host. However, You turned the tables neatly on him and the rest of the Pharisees who were present saying,

‘Oh, you Pharisees! You clean the outside of cup and plate, while inside yourselves you are filled with extortion and wickedness. Fools! Did not he who made the outside make the inside too? Instead, give alms from what you have and then indeed everything will be clean for you.’

It will do all of us well to remember that it is better to live the Word of God rather than to know it and twist it to suit our own infamous agendas. May we always remember that love covers a multitude of sins and it is better to love and make excuses for the failures and weaknesses of others rather than trumpet them to the world. Charity demands it.
