TUESDAY OF THE EIGHTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME - 2022

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

Blessed are you, Father,
Lord of heaven and earth,
for revealing the mysteries of the kingdom
to mere children. MT 11:25

My Soul's Beloved,

Every prophecy in salvation history concerning the Messiah is fulfilled in You. Suffering is anathema to the human spirit and yet You were sent into the world to suffer and to show us that the only way to the Father's house is through dying to self. All who believe in You are invited to imitate You in Your humility, Your love, and Your filial obedience in all things to Your Father's will.

We have been purchased by Your Blood. The great exchange was made on the Cross Your death for our life, Your suffering made reparation for the sins of the world. You paid in full the price of our redemption. Salvation is a gift we receive in faith.

The faith that we receive freely today is possible only because of the Church You founded on Peter and the Apostles and their blood and the blood of countless martyrs who gladly died in order to witness to the irrefutable Truth that God loves us. God's covenantal love for us is sealed in Your Blood. This is why St. Peter says, 'Even the angels long to catch a glimpse of these things.'

What You have done for us, Lord, ought to drive us to our knees in grateful thanks, in praise, worship, and adoration always, and to root out from our lives every unworthy thought, word, and deed that will lead us to commit sin. We are saved by grace but we can only claim the glorious inheritance that You won for us by making a habit of obedience, by being holy in all we do since it is God Himself who calls us to be holy, for He is holy.

My Soul's Beloved,

You have just revealed to Your disciples that it is impossible for the rich to enter the Kingdom of God, Your Apostles have left everything to follow You - family, livelihood, home, and Peter expresses what the others have also been thinking, what's in it for them? Discipleship has cost them everything. To them and to every disciple since then who has given up everything in order to follow You more closely, You make this breathtaking promise, ‘I tell you solemnly, there is no one who has left house, brothers, sisters, father, children or land for my sake and for the sake of the gospel who will not be repaid a hundred times over, houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and land – not without persecutions – now in this present time and, in the world to come, eternal life.’

However, let us not forget that we must first embrace the cross daily and follow You only then can we receive a share in Your crown of glory. And let us not be overly concerned with those who exalt themselves in this life for You assure us that ‘Many who are first will be last, and the last first.’
