FIRST SUNDAY IN LENT - 2022

LENT 2022

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

Man does not live on bread alone,
but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. MT 4:4

Deuteronomy 26:4-10 ©

My Soul's Beloved,

You have been gracious to us, in and through You, we have received from the hand of God all that is necessary for our salvation. You bore our burden, You paid the price that bought our redemption. The command of Moses to the people of God thousands of years ago is still in effect today and until the end of the age. We must be grateful and our gratitude must be visible in all we think, say, and do.

You were tempted in every way that we are tempted. We are bombarded by the world, the flesh, and the devil all the time but You have shown us how we can deflect satan's arrows, if we wear Your armor, we will not be caught in the snares of the evil one.

A grateful heart is a humble heart. A grateful heart is aware of the favor and mercy of God. A grateful heart makes a generous return to God always recalling all that God has done for us in creating us and redeeming us and for the hope we have in You - a hope of eternal joy with You in the Kingdom of God.

My Soul's Beloved,

Scripture assures us my Lord that The word (that is the faith we proclaim) is very near to you, it is on your lips and in your heart.

Eternal Word of the Father, You repose in our souls. You long to rest in us. We are saved O Lord by our belief in You. Salvation is possible for all who accept that You are the Son of the Living God whom the Father sent into the world to pay the price of our redemption.

Anyone, no matter how gravely they have sinned, can be saved if we believe in our hearts that God raised You from the dead. Without the resurrection Your passion and death are meaningless. You entered into our death for our sake so You could raise us up with You to newness of life in the resurrection.

While all this is absolutely true my Lord, that once we make our profession of faith in You and believe without a shadow of a doubt that salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved, it is also true that our faith is the catalyst which enables us to live lives that are pleasing to You. Faith without good works is dead as St. James reminds us.

Thank You, for purchasing the redemption of the whole world, Beloved. All, without exception, who call on Your Name are saved, but not everyone knows You so not everyone believes. It falls upon us to live authentically Christian lives so all may see You reflected in us and desire what we have as well.

My Soul's Beloved,

After Your baptism in the Jordan, filled with the Holy Spirit, You went into the wilderness and fasted for forty days and all that time the devil tempted You. The temptations would have been relentless as he hoped that in a moment of weakness You would succumb. While You fasted You prayed so while You were weak from lack of food Your Spirit was invincible because You leaned totally on Your Father.

There may have been moments when the temptations were strong because You were fully man and fully God or else You would not have understood when we are tempted. But You withstood all the wiles of the devil unlike our first parents and You won the victory of the world, the flesh, and the devil and now we share in Your victory.
