WEDNESDAY OF THE THIRD WEEK OF LENT - 2021

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

Your words are spirit, Lord, and they are life;
you have the message of eternal life. JN:63,68

DEUTERONOMY 4:1,5-9 ©

My Soul's Beloved,

No other nation but the nation of Israel was chosen from among all the nations - chosen not for its size, not because its people were better than those in the rest of the world, but because it was the smallest and the least. This is God's way - He does not act as we would - His ways are higher, His thoughts deeper, His love greater than anything we can know or fathom.

God loves the smallest, the weakest, the humblest, the lowliest, the childlike, who know that without Him they are nothing. They depend on Him and He, in turn, gives them all they need.

To the people He chose, He gave the Law to teach them right from wrong and how to have a right relationship with Him and with each other. Moses assured them if they obeyed all that God commanded they would be granted great blessings both spiritual and temporal.

Obedience to God's laws is necessary if we are to live in harmony with God and with the world. The people of Israel were to be a light to the nations for they alone were privileged to have a personal encounter with God through the patriarchs and prophets. From them would come the Son of God. He would be born of a Virgin chosen from among His people, and His spiritual Father would be chosen from a descendant from the line of David.

As the Son of Man, God would walk in the flesh among His people. The greatest of all tragedies is that we have failed to understand, to truly grasp, and to be truly transformed by this awesome truth. Our world is teetering on the brink of annihilation because it is spiritually bankrupt. Generations in the past and present generations have failed to know the Truth, embrace it in faith, and hand it down in its fullness from parent to child.

‘But take care what you do and be on your guard. Do not forget the things your eyes have seen, nor let them slip from your heart all the days of your life; rather, tell them to your children and to your children’s children.’

The fruit of our carelessness and indifference is painfully evident. May the Lord have mercy on us and on the whole world and save us once more before it is too late.

PSALM 147:12-13,15-16,19-20 ©

O praise the Lord, Jerusalem!

My Soul's Beloved,

While it may appear that the world is slowly but surely being wrapped in the dark night of sin, error, and evil, the fact is that there are many faithful men and women who are shining the light of truth. They have indomitable courage, they are uncompromising in their faith, and they are raising up in their families children who in turn are strong in faith. They are the hope of our world even though their numbers may be very small. With the might of the Holy Spirit, they will prevail and the world will experience a New Pentecost.

You are the Eternal Word uttered by the Father and it will not return to Him without accomplishing all that the Father intends It to do.

The Church is alive, the Word is preached, hearts are being converted, and a new day is dawning. True to Your Name, Emmanuel, You have never ceased to walk among us. Thank You.

My Soul's Beloved,

The Law was necessary because it made us aware of sin. The 10 Commandments are a barrier that keeps us from falling over the precipice to certain death. This is why You say,
‘Do not imagine that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have come not to abolish but to complete them.'

It is impossible for us to keep the commandments faithfully on our own strength. We need help. We need grace. We need the Holy Spirit. The Law of God is eternal. 'I tell you solemnly, till heaven and earth disappear, not one dot, not one little stroke, shall disappear from the Law until its purpose is achieved.'

What is the purpose of the Law? It teaches us how to have a right relationship with God first, and then with each other. When we fail to keep them ourselves and fail to teach others to keep them, especially those whom God has entrusted to us, and to whom we are responsible in guiding their footsteps on the path to truth and life, there will be consequences, eternal consequences.
