MONDAY OF THE SECOND WEEK IN LENT - 2021

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

Your words are spirit, Lord, and they are life;
you have the message of eternal life. JN 6:63,68

DANIEL 9:4-10 ©

My Soul's Beloved,

Daniel was a holy prophet and because he was himself a Jew, an Israelite, a member of God's chosen people, he did not hold himself innocent of the collective guilt of the entire Jewish nation. He acknowledges that the look of shame belongs to all because all have sinned, their kings,  leaders, their ancestors as well as the people.  Judgment and punishment is the lot of all sinners but to You, O Lord, belong mercy and pardon.

History repeats itself ad infinitum ad nauseam ad mortem, and we have no one to blame if we find ourselves where we at present at this moment in time. Life as we knew it is at an end because we took Your love, Your goodness, Your kindness, Your patience, Your generosity for granted. We betrayed You over and over again until we have reached a point where You say, 'Enough! No More!' We continue to slide deeper and deeper down into the gutter of evil. There is no longer even the semblance of wisdom among leaders of nations and their people.

We deserve all we are undergoing right now and far worse. The hand of Your judgment has fallen heavily upon us and yet we remain clueless. Very few have turned from their wicked ways. Too few understand that it is because we have turned away from You that You have abandoned us to our iniquities.

The leaders of all nations are treasonous and contemptible but they are only a reflection of the people they govern and lead.  We will drift further and further into the abyss until we realize that we need You. Only then will You reach out to us and save us. I pray, Lord, that that day will dawn sooner rather than later. For the longer, we take to come to our senses the deeper we sink into the mire.

For the sake of Your faithful remnant O Lord, have mercy on us and on the whole world.
