MONDAY OF THE FIFT WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME - 2021

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

Jesus proclaimed the Good News of the kingdom
and cured all kinds of sickness among the people. MT 4:23

GENESIS 1:1-19

My Soul's Beloved,

The Church invites us to reflect with her on how it all began. The opening words in the first verse, 'in the beginning' reveals to us that it is God alone who is the Author and Creator of all that is, there is nothing in all creation either in heaven or on earth, things seen and unseen, that does not have His imprint on it.

All is God's whether we know it or not, whether we acknowledge it or not, whether or not we are hard-headed and hard-hearted, it does not change the immutable, inexorable fact that God is Author, Father, and Creator of all.

Father, Word, and Spirit in a perfect harmony of will created all things with perfect order, precision, and meticulous attention to detail. The life-giving breath of the Spirit infused the Word of the Father and when God said, 'Let there be' it was according to His Word.

First came Light, the same Light that would in time come into the world and dispel the darkness, and all that came after it followed a pattern and design patented by God over which He has sole authority and right. Each day God created from morning to evening and at the close of the day, He looked at all He created and declared, that it was good.

Lord, God, Creator, Savior, and Guide may we never complain, become dissatisfied, and querulous when Your plans are not ours. Grant us the grace to remember always that You who created us knows what is best for us and may we have the wisdom always to say, 'Not my will but Yours be done.'

PSALM 104:2,5-6,10,12,24,35

My Soul's Beloved,

You are the Light of the world, You are clothed in majesty and glory as well as in mercy, and love. This is why we can approach You night or day and implore You to bless us and You do because we are the work of Your hands.

Your Word holds the foundations of the world firm and the Breath of Your Spirit gives and sustains life to all creation. The gaze of God is upon us and He never forgets that we are dependent on Him.

The oceans, mountains, valleys, hills, springs, the birds, and all living things including humans give You unceasing praise and glory by being what You created each to be in their time and place.

Life and goodness flow from all the works of Your hand and to humans is given the will and the imagination to reflect on the riches, the grandeur, the beauty of the heavens, the earth, and the seas, and to worship God who has given us the stewardship of His wonderful world.

MARK 6:53-56

My Soul's Beloved,

The people of Gennesaret put us to shame. We have so much more than they did but they recognized You, they believed, they had faith, they were excited, they were filled with fervor and joy when You visited them with Your disciples once again.

They did not wait for You to approach them but hurried to You and not just they but they brought with them people from the countryside. News of You spread everywhere so wherever You went from village to village and from town to town they laid out their sick wherever they knew You would be passing. They knew that it was now or never and so they begged You to let them touch just the fringe of Your cloak for the crowds were so great, and the sick so many in number - and all who touched You were cured.

We have it so easy - we are a post-resurrection people, we have the Eucharist, an enduring sign of Your Presence in the world.  You are not only present night and day Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity in all the adoration chapels around the world but at every celebration of Holy Mass, the Lord's Supper.

You are the new Manna, the Living Bread, the Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world. All we need to do is come and You will feed us on Yourself, the real food and drink that wells up to eternal life in us and yet we come in trickles. We cannot be bothered, we are indifferent, we are lazy, our belief is tepid, our love lukewarm. It is not surprising that our world is in the state we find ourselves in right now. Who could blame You if You vomit us out and be done with us?

Thankfully, for our sakes, Your Sacrifice on Calvary will ensure that the hearts of all will eventually turn to You. God will not permit so great a Sacrifice to be in vain. Hasten the day of our repentance Beloved and like the people of Gennesaret let us come hurrying to You, worship You, be fed by You and healed in every way that we need healing.
