THURSDAY OF THE TWENTY-SEVENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME - 2020

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

Open our heart, O Lord,
to accept the words of your Son. ACTS 16:14

GALATIANS 3:1-5

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

St. Paul loves his people, he has preached to them, taught them, baptized them and has won their souls for You, the Christ, the Son of the Living God. He now receives reports that they are being misled by false teachers so he writes to them forcefully, reminding them that the law is powerless to save them.

It is the Spirit alone that gives life, all that the law can do is make us aware of our sins nothing more. The work of forgiveness is the work of salvation that was wrought on the Cross the world. Through You alone can we obtain forgiveness of sin and through the help and power of Your Holy Spirit resist the temptation to sin. We receive the miracle of new life in the Spirit which is granted to us through faith in You.

LUKE 1:69-75

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

Zechariah, filled with the Holy Spirit opens his mouth to prophesy the marvelous new thing that God was about to do for the people He chose as His own. The Savior of the world would come first to them and from them to the whole world.

Every prophecy was to be fulfilled - God would become incarnate becoming like one of us in all things except sin in order to save us. The law made it clear that we were sinners and there was nothing we could do to free ourselves from the snares of sin, the traps laid by the flesh that enslaved us.

God so loved the world that He would send His only Son, not to condemn us but to save us. You would enter into our death so we could be raised by to new life in You through Your resurrection. This is the Good News that saves us. We can strive after holiness and purity, goodness, and truth, only because You have made it possible for us to become like You with the help of Your Holy Spirit.

Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb we are now invited to serve You in holiness and justice all the days of our lives.

LUKE 11:5-13

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

Today You teach us how to persist in prayer through a parable. You also assure us that anything we ask the Father in prayer He will give us.

But what do we ask for, how do we ask for it, and how can we know for certain that what we ask for in prayer will be given to us? Our foremost desire must be for the Holy Spirit. Without the Spirit, we can do nothing pleasing to the Father but with Him, we can strive to be holy and perfect just as our heavenly Father is holy and perfect. It is the one gift that our Father will gladly give to all who ask in Your Name.
