DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS
If we love one another,
God remains in us,
and his love is brought to perfection in us. 1JN 4:12
1 CORINTHIANS 8:1-7, 11-13
My Beloved, Soul of my soul,
Actions have consequences. I may be strong in my faith but there may be others around me who may be weaker than I, and they will judge my actions. This is why I must be prudent.
You have said, that everything God has created is clean, it is what comes out of our hearts that determines whether or not we are clean or unclean. But St. Paul also says that we must be sensitive in such matters around those who are still growing in faith. It is better to refrain from doing something that could cause another to stumble or fall. Love precedes all.
PSALM 139:1-3, 13-14, 23-24
My Beloved, Soul of my soul,
I thank You for Your intimate knowledge of me. It is reassuring to know that nothing about me is hidden from You. You know me from all eternity. You created me. You breathed life into me. You have watched me carefully from the moment of my conception and You continue to do so to this day and so it will be until I take my last breath on earth.
You are no further from me than my breath. Like the air around me, You envelop me. You are with me when life is calm or when storms arise. You never let go of me. This knowledge that You are Emmanuel, God with us, keeps me strong, peaceful, and serene. Nothing will have the power to take away the hope, faith, and trust I have in You because I believe in You and Your Word. If You permit it then it is because You deem it necessary for my good. You are God and You love me and I am yours in time and in eternity.
LUKE 6:27-38
My Beloved, Soul of my soul,
You ask nothing of us that You did not do or undergo Yourself. We are Your disciples - every faithful disciple beginning with Your Mother imitates You, models their life on You, and learns from You. Every disciple is called to listen just as Your Mother did and we are called to ponder it in our hearts for as long as we live. Your Word is a light to our path and a lamp to our feet. If we walk in the light of Your Word we will never go astray.
Addressing Your disciples in every age, You give us Your Way of living in the world. A Way that the world scorns and deems utterly laughable and ridiculous. Your Way is foolishness to the world but it is wiser than the wisdom of humans.
Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who treat you badly. To the man who slaps you on one cheek, present the other cheek too; to the man who takes your cloak from you, do not refuse your tunic. Give to everyone who asks you, and do not ask for your property back from the man who robs you.
Christianity must walk the talk. Only love like Yours can transform the world and hasten the coming of the Kingdom of God among us.
We demand compassion, we demand leniency, we do not wish to be condemned, we want to be forgiven when we sin but we can only receive in the measure that we give.
Give, and there will be gifts for you: a full measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will be poured into your lap; because the amount you measure out is the amount you will be given back.’
