SATURDAY OF THE TWENTY-SECOND WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME - 2020

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

I am the Way, the Truth and the Life, says the Lord;
No one can come to the Father except through me. JN 14:16

1 CORINTHIANS 4:6-15

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

Every Christian who has ever taken seriously Your mandate and command to preach the Good News to the ends of the earth, since the time of the Apostles have suffered persecution, want, imprisonment, flogging, and even death.  If today, we can give thanks to God for the gift of faith it is because a disciple was prepared to risk this present life in order to make You known and loved. Someone was prepared to suffer tribulation, hardship, want, persecution, for the sake of the Gospel. They laid down their lives in imitation of You, so we could live.

Today many nations are denying their Christian heritage. They are prepared to simply erase all the blood, sweat, labor, and suffering that went into making You known and loved. But their lives will not be in vain just as Yours is not in vain. Grant O Lord that this will be the time when the world will awake once more to the beauty and knowledge of Truth.

PSALM 146:17-21

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

Thank You for inviting me into a personal relationship with You and for the grace to accept Your invitation. All is grace. Without grace, it would be impossible to please You. It is You who desire that I remain in You, stay close to You, never to be parted from You. This is why You give me Your life-giving Sacraments that help me to remain faithful.

Thank You, Beloved, for answering all my prayers even when the answer is not quite what I expected. Thank You for keeping Your ear close to my lips in order to hear every sigh. Thank You for Your great love for me even though I am undeserving of it. Thank You for laying down Your life for me so I may share eternity with You. May I never cease to praise You, bless You, glorify You, and give You thanks and be forever grateful to You for as long as there is breath in my body.

LUKE 6:1-5

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

You satisfy the hungry heart. While the Pharisees among us are busy nit-picking about what can and cannot be done, what is permitted and what is not, You reach out to the weary, the disheartened, the suffering, the poor, the sick and You give them all they need to heal, refresh, and restore.

You are God, who will say 'no' to You. Everything is created by You and all things are subject to You. The Church You founded, is always aware that it is the spirit of the law that counts not the letter. Love supersedes all. There is no law that prohibits love to act and bring relief to those who are hurting, the marginalized, the poor, the forgotten, the victims of the world's atrocities.

Let us never forget that You are the Lord of Lord, Kings of Kings, Ruler of the heavens, and the earth. It is the Father who gives the Son dominion and rule over all that is, was, and will be. ‘The Son of Man is master of the sabbath.’
