DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS
If today you hear his voice,
harden not your hearts. PS 95:8
MICAH 6:1-4, 6-8
My Beloved, Soul of my soul,
If only the world knew You, if only those who knew You had the burning zeal of the Apostles and disciples. We have failed in the mandate we received at Baptism to be the light and salt of the world. We have failed in proclaiming the Good News of salvation that there is no God but You O Lord and that God so loved the world He held nothing but gave the world His only Son who in turn poured Himself out as a libation for our redemption and for the forgiveness of all our sins.
Through the pages of Sacred Scripture we see how God almighty who laid the foundations of the word, pleads with His unworthy creatures to return to Him. We are loved with a love beyond anything we can ever imagine. We are loved abundantly, faithfully, and irrevocably. There is nothing we can do that will stop You from loving us. All You ask in return is that we 'act justly, love tenderly and walk humbly with You, Our God.'
PSALM 50:5-6, 8-9, 16-17, 21, 23
My Beloved, Soul of my soul,
Generations of Christians have failed You miserably. They have slowly but surely turned away from You refusing to give You honor and raising their children who in turn raised their children in ignorance of You.
Generations of Christians have failed because we took for granted what we had. We have been too lazy, too selfish, and too preoccupied with getting and spending to hand down the only real and lasting Treasure we possess. Our chaotic world is the fruit of our failure.
God has done it all - He gave all and we willfully, disdainfully, and carelessly turned our back on You. Yet You do not give up on us through all the circumstances in our life You gently woo us back to Yourself.
May this time of the pandemic bring every baptized Christian to their senses. May we use this time to draw closer to You and to each other. May this time of uncertainty lead us to reflection and prayer enabling us to know You and in knowing You to fall passionately in love with You, and discovering that in You alone is our lasting joy and peace.
MATTHEW 12:38-42
My Beloved, Soul of my soul,
Why is it that after receiving the greatest sign of God's love we still keep asking for signs? We are just like the scribes and Pharisees who not only witnessed many of the miracles You performed but heard of Your astounding power over mind, body, spirit, soul, and the elements. Yet, they ask for more signs. Nothing is ever enough for those whose hearts are hardened against You.
The greatest sign of God's love is ever-present and is unending. The greatest miracle of God's awe-inspiring love is celebrated in Holy Eucharist from the rising of the sun to its setting and to its rising again, and will continue uninterruptedly until You return. It began on Holy Thursday reached its pinnacle on Good Friday and exploded on Easter Sunday. There is something greater than Solomon here and yet we continue to ask for miracles and signs to titillate us while our hearts remain far from You.
We pray, Beloved, that this time of grace that is granted to us will be the catalyst that restores, renews, and rekindles our zeal, our faith, our hope, and our love in the Holy Eucharist which is the only healing remedy for all the ills of the world.
