FIFTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME - 2020

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

The seed is the word of God, Christ the sower;
whoever finds this seed will remain for ever.

ISAIAH 55:10-11

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

You are the Word of God, the Incarnate Word of the Father. You are the Word that was uttered by the Father to establish His Kingdom in the hearts of all people. The Eternal Word did not return to the Father before accomplishing all that the Father desired.

The prophet Isaiah already hints at the Bread that will become the spiritual nourishment of all who receive it. It is the Holy Spirit who prepares the soil and provides all the graces essential to receive the Seed of the Word of God, and enables us bear a rich harvest for the glory of God.

You, Yourself Beloved, are the Seed, ground in the millstone of suffering for the Bread of Holy Communion which makes us one Body in You and establishes the Kingdom of God among us..

PSALM 65:10-14

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

How marvelously the Psalmist describes the life of one who is cared for by You. Our God is a beneficent God providing all we will need in this life to prepare ourselves for the marvelous life to come. Not a single experience in this world can compare to the wonders that are in store for all who believe. But God has not left us to muddle along on our own,  He sent You into the world, and You in turn sent Your Holy Spirit who assists us, so we can make it safely from this life to the next, despite all the wiles of the devil to draw us away from the path of salvation.

Thank You for the streams of blessings and graces that You grant us through the wonderful Sacraments You instituted. They ensure that we will not fall by the wayside and be trampled upon, eaten by birds, choked, and wither and die.

ROMANS 8:18-23

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

Sin entered the world because of the fall of Adam and suffering is what we inherited as his heirs. But God so loved the world because all He created was good, He would not let it perish but redeemed it through You, His only and well beloved Son.

Only through the crucible of suffering can we be purified. Only by being thrust into the furnace can the dross be separated and the silver and gold refined. Suffering is not the end of the story, we have only to look at the Cross and the empty tomb to know that all suffering when united to Your passion and death results in our sharing in Your glorious resurrection.

St. Paul, the Apostles, great saints and sages all remind us that death is not to be feared and dreaded. Rather, it is the doorway opening to a life that no human has seen, heard, imagine, or describe the marvels that are in store for all God's children.

MATTHEW 13:1-23

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

You are the Seed, God our Father, the Sower, we are the soil You mention in the parable. There are areas in our heart that represent the path, indifferent, heedless, careless, there are areas that are hard and impenetrable like rock, and there are areas that are as inhospitable - much like thorny ground, and there are areas softened by both suffering and rich graces that make it possible for good to flourish and yield a plentiful harvest.

Today, grant me the grace to look at myself honestly, examine my heart and recognize the barriers I put up which prevent me from receiving the Seed of Your Word. Help me to change those hostile places in my heart to rich, fertile soil with the help and the power of Your Holy Spirit so I may bring forth a rich harvest for Your glory and for the glory of the Kingdom of God.
