DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS
Your light must shine in the sight of men,
1 KINGS 17:7-16
My Beloved, Soul of my soul,
You do not supply our needs according to our expectations but according to Your wisdom. Just as You provided for the prophet Elijah and the widow of Zarephath we can trust You to provide for us as well.
In obedience to Your word, Elijah went where You directed him to go. The widow had nothing and was going to prepare her last meal for herself and her son and then they would await death. But she responded generously to the prophet's request believing his promise. We too, believing in Your promises, must respond to Your Word with obedience and faith. When we are prepared to share all we have no matter how meager our resources, You will restore and replenish all we have given a hundredfold. You will supply all our needs, however, we must first step out in faith and act and we will be astounded by Your goodness and generosity.
"The jar of meal was not spent nor the jug of oil emptied, just as the Lord had foretold through Elijah."
PSALM 4:2-5, 7-8
My Beloved, Soul of my soul,
Today, the psalmist speaks of hearts that are closed and attachments to things that are useless, temporary, and false. You love us so much that You will do everything possible to get our attention so we may recognize when we are headed towards eternal death and destruction.
Nothing the world offers can satisfy - You alone can supply all we need but we need to return to You with humble and contrite hearts. We need to turn away from the things that draw us away from You. You long to show us Your favor but we must first turn our face to You. Grant us the grace we need to repent so Your Face may shine on us again and we will be filled once again with Your joy, peace, and Your Presence in us.
MATTHEW 5:13-16
My Beloved, Soul of my soul,
You call us to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world. The children of the Kingdom of God do not lose their savor nor do they hide their light under a tub. As long as Your Word is alive in me and is the guiding principle of my life, I will be like salt which preserves. Your light is enkindled in me by the power of Your Word, and Your Spirit abiding in me. If I am to keep this light alive I must do all You ask promptly, humbly, gladly, and obediently. Grant O Lord that all who see me may see You in Me and give praise to our Father in heaven.
Your light must shine in the sight of men,
so that, seeing your good works,
they may give the praise to your Father in heaven. MT 5:161 KINGS 17:7-16
