ST. ANTONY OF PADUA, PRIEST & DOCTOR - 2020

DAILY HOLY MASS READING

Bend my heart to your will, O Lord,
and teach me your law. PS 118:36, 29

1 KINGS 19:19-21

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

When You invite us to follow You, our response must always be a prompt yes, anything else is an excuse, a delaying tactic. The time is short and although many are called few respond promptly and generously. You have said the harvest is ready but the laborers are few. It is our responsibility not only to encourage our sons and daughters to consider a life of service to You but also to create an environment in our homes that is conducive to desiring such a vocation.

All we have is Your gift to us may we never hesitate to use Your gifts in Your service in any way You desire us to.

PSALM 16:1-2, 5-7, 10

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

All I have, all I am, is Your gift to me. I am all yours and yours I wish to be all the days of my life.

Keep me and all the people I love safe in You. Thank You for making Your Sacred Heart our home and our refuge. Thank You for the supernatural life we receive as we eat Your Body and drink Your Blood. You are the glorious inheritance promised to us at the end of this mortal life.

Thank You for Your Holy Spirit without whose aid we would perish. He is the fire that keeps faith alive. He is the voice that directs our steps. He is the Helper who lives in us and helps us reach our eternal destiny. He gives us joy in the midst of sorrow, hope in the midst of despair, courage in the midst of fear, peace in the eye of the storm, and the certainty that You will never abandon those who are washed in Your Blood and sealed in Your Spirit.

MATTHEW 5:33-37

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

In a world where Your Name is often taken lightly, is used foully, is trampled upon, and used sacrilegiously, those who belong to You must never be counted in that number.

All power belongs to God and every promise that we make we are bound to keep. Too often vows made with You as a witness are broken on the slightest pretext. Vows are made with no intention of keeping them when the feel-good feelings have passed.  Such vows are blasphemy and all who make them will be called to give a strict account of their infamy.

As Your disciples, Your followers, those called by Your Name, may we heed Your desire to speak plainly and truthfully saying "Yes" when we mean yes, and "No" when we mean no. Anything more than this, You warn us, comes from the evil one.
