FRIDAY OF THE THIRD WEEK OF EASTER - 2020

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

Whoever eats my Flesh and drinks my Blood,
remains in me and I in him, says the Lord. JN 6:57

ACTS 9:1-20

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

The conversion of Saul is proof that the greater the sinner the greater the saint with God's grace.

Saul had murderous plans for the Christians in Damascus but You had other plans for him. Once he encountered You there was no turning back. You threw him flat on his back and revealed to him that in truth, it was You he was persecuting when he persecuted Your followers.

You have a plan for us all but we can only discover it when we take time to discern what that plan is as Saul did. He prayed, fasted, and waited until You revealed Your plan for him. Once he knew it, he gave his life over to You unreservedly and what an awesome plan it was. You revealed to Ananais that he was Your chosen instrument to carry Your Name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel. He would also have to have to suffer for Your Name. Suffering and mission are intertwined.

PSALM 117:1BC, 2

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

The psalmist reminds us that all people in every nation are called to praise and glorify You. The mission of every baptized Christian is to go out to all the world and tell the Good News. What impels us to do so is Your everlasting love, Your everlasting faithfulness, and Your Presence abiding in us.

JOHN 6:52-59

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

The Jews quarreled among themselves when they heard You speak about eating Your Flesh and drinking Your Blood but You did not backtrack. You repeated unequivocally that this is the only way we can receive divine life, yet the same quarrel goes on among our non-Catholic brothers and sisters.

Many have a blind spot when they read this particular passage from John's gospel. Many others refuse to  take it literally whereas they are quite prepared to take other less important passages literally. Many are afraid that if they believe they will have to come home to the Church You founded, and their prejudice against their erroneous beliefs of the Catholic faith prevents them from doing so.

They, like Pilate, are unable to go forward after asking the first question, "What is truth?" There is also no side-stepping this truth, if we desire eternal life then we must eat and drink worthily of the Eucharist as God our Father desires.
