THURSDAY OF THE SECOND WEEK OF EASTER - 2020

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

You believe in me, Thomas, because you have seen me, says the Lord; blessed are those who have not seen, but still believe!
JN 20:29

ACTS 5:27-33

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

Timidity, cowardice, and greed acquiesce to godless authority for different reasons. Largely though, it can be indifference that causes many to exist in an atmosphere of hostile peace. If something does not touch us personally and our faith is the kind that washes its hands of responsibility for neighbor, then we will find many ways to kill our conscience.

The Apostles, post-Pentecost were a new creation. Filled with the Holy Spirit they witnessed boldly to the truth and nothing was going to stop them from preaching the Good News. The truth is that Your Blood is upon us just as it was on the high priest and the Sanhedrin, and whether we know it or not it is Your Blood that saves.

PSALM 34: 2, 9, 17-20

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

It is very consoling to know that You hear the cry of the poor. Poverty is seen in many forms. It is not only the lack of basic material necessities that make us poor but our poverty is greater when we lack the Holy Spirit.

The world is steeped in sin because we have failed in our mission to preach the Gospel that saves the world. These are times when the world is hurting but they do not know that You are at hand, ready to heal, console, and give new life. Our silence makes us accountable for their ignorance of You.

Grant us a new Pentecost so we may reignite the world with Your love and Your power.

JOHN 3:31-36

My Beloved, Soul of my soul,

The words You spoke to Nicodemus speak plainly to us as well. You came from above in order to reveal to the world the things of heaven. How could we, earthly creatures, know of heavenly things unless someone came from heaven to reveal these things to us. God's love for us His errant children, prompted Him to save us who were lost forever. The price of redemption for the sins of the world cost the Father the life of His only Son.

Not only did You pay it in perfect submission to the will of Your Father, but You also gave us the gift of the Holy Spirit without measure. Without the Holy Spirit, it would be impossible for us to please God.

Thank You for the gift of faith and the power of the Holy Spirit through whom we receive new life. Give us a spirit of boldness and courage to tell the whole world that it is from You alone we receive eternal life. There is no other way to the Father except through You.
