Blessed are you, O Virgin Mary, who believed
That what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled.
Lk 1:45

Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Zephaniah 3:14-18A, Isaiah 12:2-6, Luke 1:39-56

Zephaniah 3:14-18A

Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,

Today the Church remembers and celebrates the Visitation of our Blessed Mother, Mary to her cousin Elizabeth who was advanced in years and pregnant with her first child.

Mary herself is now the Ark of the New Covenant for she carries within her the Son of God, and as she makes haste to visit her cousin, she makes the first Eucharistic Procession. She is the tabernacle, she the monstrance, for within her body she is the Word of God made incarnate from her flesh. That same Body is to be our Food. The Blood that courses through You is received from her, that precious Blood that is to be our Drink.

This is why the First Daughter of the Father rejoices and we are glad and we exult with her for God has begun this wonderful new thing in her for the world. Through the One whom she has conceived through the overshadowing of the Holy Spirit and the power of the Most High, the world will be redeemed. The world which was infiltrated by Satan and his minions will no longer prevail for the victory will be won, God will triumph, His First Born will remove forever the sting of death and open the gate to the Kingdom of God. No wonder the prophet announces to the children of Israel to shout for joy for God's favor has rested on one of her daughters to bring to fruition His plan for the salvation and redemption of the whole world.

Isaiah 12:2-6

Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,

The Prophet Isaiah is the prophet who prophesied accurately all that the world could expect the great, and Holy One of Israel would come in our midst.

The people of Israel were given new hope, they were encouraged to live in joyful expectation for the wondrous plan of God that would soon be fulfilled. A Savior would be sent who would wipe away our tears, who would lead us to streams of Living Water and quench our thirst.

No longer would we need to fear for God Himself has become Emmanuel, God with us.

Thank You, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Thank You, Mother Mary, for the joy we now possess because Mary said yes.

Luke 1:39-56

Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,

Mary was sinless and this is why she was a mirror that reflected God and God alone. This is why she said yes even though she did not fully understand all that that yes encompassed. Having received the message from the Angel that she was to bear God's Son and that her aged cousin Elizabeth was with child, she goes in haste to be of service to her, to encourage her, to share the Good News.

The evangelist tells us that the moment the sound of Mary's voice in greeting reached Elizabeth the baby in her own womb recognized that he was in the Presence of God and leaped with joy. At that moment he was filled with the Spirit of God for the great mission that would be entrusted to him.

When Elizabeth, who through the power of the Holy Spirit returned Mary's greeting with the words,

"Most blessed are you among women,
and blessed is the fruit of your womb.
And how does this happen to me,
that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy.
Blessed are you who believed
that what was spoken to you by the Lord
would be fulfilled."

Mary responded with the Song of Songs as she praises God for the new thing that He has begun in her for the salvation and redemption of the world. It is a Song that has been sung through the ages and all who sing it also contemplate with Mary the wonderful things God has done for us through her yes to His plan.

This Song is the Song of the Church You founded with Mary as her Mother, You as her Bridegroom, God Himself as her Father and the Holy Spirit who empowers her and makes her a beacon of light set high on a hilltop. It is to her that the people of the world can ascend and find in her the fullness of joy, love, peace, and fulfillment for our own lives.

Mary teaches us how to be a true disciple, a perfect model of faith that we can emulate. Loving Mary and imitating her we can be certain that we can reach the Kingdom of God surely and safely.

May we sing and exult with Mary as we too join in her hymn of praise, the Magnificat:

"My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord;
my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.
From this day all generations will call me blessed:
the Almighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his Name.

He has mercy on those who fear him
in every generation.
He has shown the strength of his arm,
he has scattered the proud in their conceit.
He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
and has lifted up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.
He has come to the help of his servant Israel
for he has remembered his promise of mercy,
the promise he made to our fathers,
to Abraham and his children forever."
