Blessed are they who have kept the word with a generous heart
and yield a harvest through perseverance. Lk 8:15
Jeremiah 17:5-10, Psalm 1:1-4 & 6, Luke 16:19-31
Jeremiah 17:5-10
Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,
The prophet Jeremiah paints a start picture of those who live rooted in God and those who live in the world. Anyone who puts their trust in people is bound to be disappointed anyone who believes the world can offer any happiness is headed for a life that is as arid as the desert that is not only without water but is incapable of nurturing any life. It is dead. In contrast the one who puts all their faith, hope and trust in God, whose Word is planted deep in their hearts, has put down roots and draws life from the Holy Spirit is bursting lush with fruit. Its leaves stay green no matter what the season for it planted by the source of Living Water that wells up to eternal life. They bear fruit in every season and all who come to it receive Your Life. You know all things and You reward everyone according to their deeds. May I never withdraw from You Beloved and may every thought, word, and deed that are expressed by me be inspired by Your Holy Spirit.
Psalm 1:1-4 & 6
Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,
The Psalm echoes the words of Jeremiah. He exhorts us to stay away from those who will lead our footsteps to eternal damnation. But to stay rooted in You and in Your Word. Those who make their home in You have hope - hope that can never be taken away as long as they are in You.
To meditate on Your Word gives life, peace, joy, and hope. It encourages, it teaches, it sheds light that illumines the way when the road is dark and narrow. The more we read Your Word and reflect on it the more will we grow in wisdom. Keep me safe in Your Word Beloved. Let my instruction come from You and not from the world and may I will find my refuge and my home in You.
Luke 16:19-31
Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,
The parables You told struck deep and revealed the truth to its listeners. It is no wonder the Pharisees hated You with a visceral hatred and plotted constantly to do away with You until finally they succeeded.
Here to tell them the parable of the rich man and Lazarus. The rich man's sin was indifference. He was blind to the agony of Lazarus who was at his gate. He was so full of himself that the poor man was out of his line of vision. All the times he went in and out of his house he just didn't see the poor man lying there in such utter misery and such dire distress.
As long as the rich man was in the world he was caught up in the things of the world; the things of heaven never entered his mind. In death he became conscious of Lazarus who had also died and was now in the company of Abraham and enjoying eternal life. He was now in torment and still so full of himself that he did not see the irony of his request when he asked that Lazarus be sent to ease his suffering.
Beloved, grant that I may use the time I have here well so when my hour arrives You will come to take me to Yourself.
