The people who sit in darkness have seen a great light;
on those dwelling in a land overshadowed by death,
light has arisen. Mt. 4:16

Deuteronomy 18:15-20

Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,

When Moses spoke about a prophet sent by God chosen from among them he was prophesying about the incarnation. God would send His Son into the world as one like us in all things save sin. When God spoke to the people they were terrified and thought they would die and they told Moses that they did not want to hear Him speak. But God sent You into the world as a Baby, small, weak, helpless, dependent on Your Mother to be nursed, clothed, cared for. A Baby whom the world would not fear but with whom we could draw near, with whom we could identify.

Thank You Beloved for Your humility. Thank You Father for the gift of Your Son. Thank You Holy Spirit for making the will of God a reality. Thank You Mother Mary for your 'yes' without your consent the incarnation would not have been possible.

Psalm 95:1-2, 6-9

Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,

You call us constantly to repentance because we were created for God and for His Kingdom. Our eternal destiny ought to be the source of our joy. Yes, we are sinners, and we will be tempted as long as we are in the flesh, but we have received the Spirit of God which makes us sons and daughters of God and it is this Spirit that enables us to call Him 'Abba' Father. We are a people of the the Resurrection and this is why we must have a song of praise constantly on our lips. We are saved.

You are our Good Shepherd. You guide us along the Way and with the help of Your Spirit we can choose to do what is right always. You have not left us to muddle our way to the Kingdom, rather You have given us the Sacraments to strengthen us and fill us with grace. You do not ask us for the impossible, all we are required to do is live the present moment well, for the rest, we can trust You.

1 Corinthians 7:32-35

Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,

There is a way of life that is excellent and many are called to choose it. How did we manage to travel so far from the wisdom of this invitation that the world of today thinks it ridiculous an unnatural? We are created for God. In this truth is our greatest joy and we are restless because we do not rest in You. The world today is dissipated, hungry for the next thing to excite and titillate. The sated flesh is feverishly looking for depraved new thrills all the while finding only emptiness and darkness.

The world has forgotten the good, the noble, the pure, the beautiful, the divine. We have the answer but we have stifled it because we are afraid of the demands that such a call may have on us. We have failed not because we have tried but because we refuse to rise to the challenge that the call of the Spirit gives us.

John the Apostle and the Evangelist, as well as St. Paul and so many other noble men and women have found true union with You because they denied the world and the flesh and followed You with undivided heart and mind.

Help us Lord to discover true joy that can be found only in loving You.

Mark 1:21-28

Dear Love, Beloved of my soul,

In today's Gospel passage we are told that You spoke as one having authority. The people who heard You speak were unaware that You were the incarnate Word of God. Eternally begotten by the Father, and when You spoke of God and the Kingdom of God You knew intimately about what You spoke.

As the Son of God and empowered by His Spirit You had authority over all creation, over demons and evil spirits, and over death itself. Your miracles were signs pointing out to the reality of who You were - the Savior, the Redeemer, the Messiah for whom the world was waiting ever since the sin of Adam and our separation from God.

Evil spirit know You but we whom God has called to be His children are ignorant of You. This is because we who know You have not done enough to make You known. We have failed in our mission of living the Gospel. Help us Lord to become more effective in our mission of making You known and loved to everyone we encounter each day.
