Acts 6:8-15, Psalm 119:23-24, 26-27, 29-30, John 6:30-35

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

Acts 6:8-15, Psalm 119:23-24, 26-27, 29-30, John 6:30-35

Acts 6:8-15

My soul’s beloved, Stephen was the first martyr. He was filled with the Holy Spirit and with grace and power that comes from the Spirit of God he performed great wonders and miraculous signs just as You promised. You assured those who believe would be able to do greater things than You had done because You were going to the Father and would send Your Holy Spirit. This promise was not only given to the early Church but to all believers. We restrict ourselves by our lack of faith in You and Your Word which is steadfast and everlasting.

My soul’s beloved any baptized Christian who takes their faith seriously and lives it boldly in public, unafraid and unabashed is bound to be hated by those who are challenged by the Truth. They have no defense against it and this is why they will find no rest and will be prepared to go to any lengths even to false testimony in order to destroy them. The enemies of the Truth have yet to understand that the more blood is spilled the more will Christianity grow strong and it will attract more to the faith. We need not be afraid when our faith is tested by evil for Truth always prevails.

Psalm 119:23-24, 26-27, 29-30

My soul’s beloved, the psalmist assures us that no harm will come to Your servants who are unafraid to live the faith and are governed by Your law of love even if the rich and powerful conspire against them. To know Your law, to meditate on it, to be guided by it in every situation will enable us to experience a deep and abiding peace and joy.

You have said, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life.” I believe You, my soul clings to You and with Your help and the infinite graces You make available to me I will obey Your Word until my breath leaves my body and You take me to Yourself to abide with You eternally.

John 6:30-35
My soul’s beloved, here we see the people clamoring for more signs so they may believe. All the wonderful miraculous signs they had witnessed until then were not enough to convince them, nothing would. From the beginning and to this day worldly people lust for miracles as proof of Your power just like Herod. They are not interested in the truth. Stephen performed miracles and wonderful signs through the power of the Holy Spirit but that did not save him  – he was martyred.

The only miracle we need is the miracle of the Holy Eucharist – a lasting memorial of Your Presence among us. We thank You for this awesome Gift. We thank You Father for it was You that desired that we have Your Son as Food and Drink. You know that unless we are united with Him it is impossible for us to please You. Thank You Holy Spirit of God, Spirit of power, grace and truth for taking the gifts of bread and wine that offer to the Father who through You give them back to in the Gift par excellence – the Holy Eucharist.
“I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall never be hungry, and whoever believes in me shall never be thirsty
