Amos 5:14-15, 21-24, Psalm 50:7-13, 16-17, Matthew 8:28-34

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS:

My Beloved, in Baptism, grafted on to Your Body after being plunged with You in Your death and rising again to new life in Your glorious Resurrection, we receive the virtues of faith, hope and charity.  These virtues are freely bestowed on us as members of God's family.  The Father always provides His children with all they need.  We are not orphans.  If we are children of the Father, then we have to shun evil and do good.  We have to actively seek good in everything.  In thought word, deed and desire.  We must do good always only then will our prayers of praise, worship, adoration, thanksgiving and intercession rise up like fragrant incense before the Throne of Grace.  Only then will our prayers, fasts and almsgiving be pleasing in the sight of God.  We must have clean hands and pure hearts when we approach the Banquet of the Lord.  If not, all we do will be like clashing symbols and noisy gongs and God will close His ears to our prayers and petitions.  What God desires is that that we actively seek to do what pleases Him always and everywhere.

My Beloved, God reminds us not only that He is God, but that He is our God and we belong to Him just as everything that exists belongs to Him.  He needs nothing from us, we can add nothing to Him nor take away anything from Him.  He is perfect and complete in Himself.  Even what we offer Him belongs to Him.  Those who have evil residing within their hearts and live evil lives, dare to make to make a pretence of goodness.  When sinners approach the Altar of Sacrifice with sin stained souls, they defile it because they have thrown God's love back in His Face and have turned their back on His commandment to love God with their entire hearts, minds, souls, bodies and strength and their neighbors as much they love themselves.

Wherever there is demonic activity there is fierce resistance to God. There is a recognition among evil spirits that God alone has power to destroy them, in fact evil is already destroyed on the Cross.  This is why Satan trembles with fear and fury for he knows that his days are at an end.  Those who are given up to evil lack peace.  They cannot bear to be in the presence of good and like the people of the town of Gadara they would rather live in a world without God than in a world with Him.
