Daily Meditation: Luke 9:44, 48
Luke 9:44, 48
48 Then he said to them, “Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me, welcomes the one who sent me. And listen: the one who is found to be the least among you all, is the one who is the greatest.”
Beloved, You came among us as one of us, You yielded Yourself to mankind and You continue to remain with us, always hidden, yet with us nevertheless. It is up to us to choose You or not - in choosing to welcome You, we also welcome the Father who sent You.
The secret of belonging utterly to You is to realize that but for the grace and mercy of God I would not be alive. I must always remember how totally I am dependent on Your mercy, I will be truly Yours only if I put You above all and serve all for love of You
Daily Mass Readings: Numbers 20:1-13, Matthew 16:13-23,
Psalm 95:1-2,6-9
Numbers 20:1-13
Beloved when God commands we not only obey, but we follow His instructions to the letter. Verses 7 & 8 says that7 God spoke to Moses, 8 “Take your rod and assemble the community, you and Aaron, your brother. In their presence command the rock to give forth water and you will make water gush from the rock for the community and their livestock to drink.”
The Lord told Moses to 'command' in order that the people would once again witness the power of God. Moses instead scolded the people and struck the rock twice with the rod. This was not what God had instructed him to do, yet God permitted water to gush forth. He would not deny His children their need for water that would quench their thirst. Moses however had to suffer the consequences of His lack of trust in God and he was not permitted to enter the Promised Land because he doubted. Let us never forget that our actions for or against God have consequences, eternal consequences.
Matthew 16:13-23
The rock in the Old Testament that Moses struck and from which gushed forth water, prefigures the Rock on which Christ's Church is built. From this Rock gushes an abundance of life-giving water that refreshes, nourishes and gives life to the whole Body of Christ which is His Church. Thank You for the gift of being a member of Your Body, the Church.
What is my response to Jesus' question, "Who do you say I am?"
It is the same as the declaration of Peter. "You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God." I thank You Beloved for Peter and his successors through whom we receive the gifts of the Sacraments, especially that of Reconciliation which enables us to receive the others in a worthy manner.
Grant O Lord that I may always think as God does and not as people do. Amen.
Psalm 95:1
1 Come, let us sing to the Lord,
let us make a joyful sound
to the Rock of our salvation.
