Tobit 1:3. 2:1-8, Psalm 112:1-6, Mark 12:1-12

DAILY HOLY MASS READINGS

Jesus Christ, you are the faithful witness,
the firstborn of the dead;
you have loved us and freed us from our sins by your Blood. Rev 1:5

Tobit 1:3. 2:1-8, Psalm 112:1-6, Mark 12:1-12

Tobit 1:3. 2:1-8

Dear Love,

Tobit was unafraid to do what was right even though he could lose his life. His neighbors mocked him, they too were his compatriots, yet they did not have the same compassion for their own people. They preferred to be safe, not to get into controversy, to hide and pretend that all is well.

I too am guilty Beloved of not standing up because I have been afraid of the consequences. You have said do not be afraid of those who can kill your body but after that can do nothing more rather, be afraid of one who has the  power to do both and send your soul to hell for all eternity.

Through the power of Your Holy Spirit grant me a spirit of courage to stand up always for what is right especially when the helpless, the powerless, and the voiceless are robbed of their inalienable rights. No matter the cost grant me the courage to always stand on the side of truth.

Psalm 112:1-6

Dear Love,

The psalmist reminds us that those who walk with integrity shall be remembered and blessed. The one who obeys Your commands when it is most difficult to do so is one who will be counted among those who walk with You and those who walk with You will never walk in darkness. You have blessed us. We are chosen, called, empowered, and sent by You to carry the Good News to the ends of the earth and when we do it is Your light that will dispel the darkness that threatens to overwhelm the world. You have given us much and You desire that we share what we have received without reserve. You are our Model. You are the Son of the Father and You came into the world to make us sons and daughters of the Most High. Grant that we may imitate You in all things.

Mark 12:1-12

Dear Love,

You were unafraid to shame those who thought themselves above the law, too powerful to be contradicted. When You spoke this parable they knew exactly what You meant and that You were indicting them and those before them of deliberately working against the prophets that God had sent to condemn them for their sins. No one likes to hear the truth especially those who hide their wickedness behind a cloak of respectability. You tore that veil and exposed them for what they truly were - enemies of God. They used their position and their power for themselves and refused to lift a finger to help those who were weak and ignorant.  It is no wonder that their hatred for You gnawed at their entrails and refused to give them rest. The plotted and planned in secret how to get rid of You permanently. Nothing but Your death would satisfy them and You knew it and they knew that You knew it. They were practically frothing at the mouth when You exposed their duplicity to the people.

The people God chose from all the nations and revealed Himself to them rejected You completely:

The stone that the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone;
by the Lord has this been done,
and it is wonderful in our eyes?"

God permitted so we could hear the Good News and be saved.
